Finally, three European countries recognized Palestine as an independent state. Those three countries are Spain, Norway and Ireland.
On Tuesday (May 28), the country recognized the three.
The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, announced the recognition of Palestine as an independent state and said that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is the only way to peace in the Middle East. His country, along with Norway and Ireland, have officially declared Palestine as an independent state.
Spanish government spokesman Pilar Alegria said the Spanish cabinet has taken an important decision to recognize Palestine as an independent state. They say the purpose of this recognition is to help establish peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Arab leaders welcomed this recognition. Palestinians are also cheering. Israel strongly condemned the decision by Spain and Norway amid the seven-month-long Gaza war as a reward for Hamas. They announced the immediate withdrawal of ambassadors from those countries.
Three European countries consider their decision to have strong symbolic implications; Which will encourage others to follow. Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Aid called the move a special day for Norwegian-Palestinian relations. Norway has been one of the staunchest defenders of a Palestinian state for more than 30 years.
Shortly after Norway’s declaration, Spain also formally recognized Palestine as an independent state.
Earlier, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gaard Storr said a two-state solution was in Israel’s interests. Norway will formally recognize Palestine on May 28. If (the State of Palestine) is not recognized, there will never be peace in the Middle East.
More than 140 countries have already recognized Palestine, which is two-thirds of the UN’s membership. However, Western dominant countries still remain outside this policy.
It should be noted that Tel Aviv has been attacking Palestine for the past seven months after Hamas attacked Israel. Millions of people have become refugees. There is a risk of famine. About 40,000 people have been killed so far.
