Bangladesh topic in Biden-Modi phone conversation

US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the phone about various situations. India’s Foreign Office said that the Bangladesh issue was discussed in the phone conversation between the two heads of state.

They emphasized the need to improve the law and order situation in Bangladesh and ensure the safety and security of minorities, especially Hindus.

A statement from India’s Foreign Office on Monday (August 26) said the two leaders had a detailed exchange of views on several regional and global issues. Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine and the Quad issue also came up.

The Indian Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for US President Joe Biden’s deep commitment to the Indo-US strategic partnership, the statement added.

On Monday night, Modi highlighted the issue of his conversation with Biden on his X handle (formerly Twitter).

About the conversation with Biden, he wrote, “Today there was a phone conversation with US President Biden. At this time, we exchanged views in detail on various regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine.

We also discussed the situation in Bangladesh and emphasized the need to bring normalcy to the country as soon as possible. Besides, there was a discussion about ensuring the security of the minorities of Bangladesh, especially the Hindus.

Incidentally, Sheikh Hasina left the country and fled to India after being ousted in the face of intense mass protests by students on August 5. The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh is currently in India.

Later in a report by the Indian media, Economic Times and The Print, Hasina pointed to the United States as the reason behind the fall of the government. In such a situation, the White House said that the United States has no involvement with the changing situation in Bangladesh.
