The Israeli military has been accused of using Palestinians in Gaza as ‘human shields’.
In a recent report, CNN reported that Israeli forces have forced Palestinian detainees into various vulnerable buildings and tunnels to ensure the safety of their own soldiers.
The report cited the testimony of an Israeli soldier and five Palestinian detainees. Although their names were not disclosed in the report.
The Israeli soldier said that this practice is very common among Israeli forces in Gaza. He also said that his unit detained two Palestinians and ordered them to be used as human shields.
In the words of the Israeli soldier, ‘We told them to enter the building first. If there is any explosive, it will go over the Palestinians, not over us.’
The Israeli military calls this process the “Mosquito Protocol.” However, it is unclear how widely it is being used in northern Gaza, Gaza City, Khan Yunis and Rafah.
The soldier said that in the spring, an Israeli intelligence officer brought two Palestinians to his unit, one aged 16 and the other 20. The intelligence officer ordered them to be used as human shields.
He complained to his superiors, but they told him not to worry about international law.
A Palestinian prisoner said that he was arrested by Israeli forces while he was collecting food aid for his family. He was held for 47 days in a military facility and was regularly forced to perform dangerous tasks so that he would not be harmed by Israeli soldiers.
Another Palestinian youth, Mohammed Shabir, 17, said he was taken from Khan Younis and used to remove dangerous objects from various buildings and areas in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army has claimed that Hamas is using Palestinians as human shields. However, their accusations have sparked controversy in the international community, where the Israeli army itself has been accused of human rights violations.
This process of the Israeli army is being criticized from the international community and discussions are increasing about the serious violation of human rights.
