After the killing of Ismail Haniya, the top leader of the Palestinian independence armed group Hamas, Iran has warned of a severe retaliation. Threats of attacks are also coming from Tehran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon and Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Tensions are running high across the Middle East amid fears of attacks by ‘resistance groups’. In such a situation, the whole world is watching the diplomatic movements of West Asia.

Israel is in constant contact with the United States and the United Kingdom due to the fear of a possible attack. The US has already decided to deploy additional troops, warships and warplanes. In this atmosphere, the ‘Abraham Jot’ is again being discussed.

The term ‘Abraham Alliance’ was first heard recently in the mouth of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He mentioned the ‘Abraham Jot’ while addressing the US Congress last week. In his speech, he also brought forward the issue of preventing Iran’s coordinated missile attack last April.

The phrase ‘Abraham Jot’ comes from the ‘Abraham Pact’ which was signed in September 2020. The agreement was brokered by the United States to stabilize diplomatic relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.

Netanyahu wants to build an alliance in the Middle East with Israel’s current and future diplomatic partners. He wants to make this alliance more fruitful in order to respond to any attack from Iran’s side.

For that purpose, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant already met with US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin and British Defense Minister John Haley.

If Iran really attacks Israel as it has threatened, then there is a danger of a war situation in several countries in the Middle East. Because Iran-backed military groups are spread in several countries in the region. There are several such armed groups in several countries including Lebanon, Gaza, Syria, Yemen.

For example, the Hezbollah group in Lebanon. This organization was created in the eighties with the support of Iran. The Hezbollah group is Iran’s first significant “proxy” in the Middle East.

It is said that both their money and weapons are provided by the Iranian military. Although formed to counter Israel, Hezbollah is now one of the most powerful military and political groups in the Middle East.

Not only in Lebanon, but also in Gaza, Iran has spread such ‘fake representatives’. Iran has ‘friendships’ with two armed groups, Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

It is heard that they also get military and financial support from Iran. Israel has been in conflict with these two groups for years. And this is why Iran has warned Israel to retaliate after the assassination of the top leader of Hamas, Haniya.

Iran also has cozy relations with the Bashar al-Assad group in Syria. Since the civil war in Syria in 2011, the friendship of this Syrian group with Iran has increased. Iran has also provided support to the Assad regime’s military at various times.

Similarly, Iran supports the Houthi group in Yemen. Iran is also supporting several such groups in Iraq. Iran has been working closely with these groups since the US sent troops to Iraq in 2003. It is these groups that have been showing their capabilities recently.

On the contrary, Israel is spending a busy time organizing the allies of the “Abraham Alliance” as well as its old allies, the United States and the United Kingdom, in the fight against Iran.
