Hamas-Israel agree to temporary ceasefire in Gaza

The Palestinian armed group Hamas and Israel have reached an agreement to stop fighting for three days in three different areas of Gaza. They have reached this decision to complete polio vaccination program of 6 lakh 40 thousand children in the first phase.

On Thursday (August 29), a senior official of the WHO reported this information. Reuters news.

Rick Peppercorn, a senior official of the World Health Organization assigned to Palestine, said that the polio vaccine program will start from next Sunday. For this reason, the attacks between Hamas and Israel will stop from 6 am to 3 pm.

He also said that the polio vaccination campaign will start from the center of Gaza and go to southern Gaza. A three-day ceasefire will follow, during which polio vaccination programs will continue in northern Gaza. Peppercorn said there could be an agreement to cease attacks for four days if needed.

In a meeting on the humanitarian situation in Gaza held at the United Nations Security Council on Thursday, WHO Emergency Director Mike Ryan said, based on experience, an additional one to two days will be needed to complete the polio program in Gaza.

Peppercorn said the second round of operations should begin four weeks after the first round ends.
