Last Saturday, 12 Israeli children were killed in a rocket attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. In retaliation, Israel attacked Lebanon’s Beirut and demanded the killing of Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukhar. However, this claim has been dismissed by Hezbollah.
The Israeli military claimed in a statement on Tuesday that the strike targeted Hezbollah commander Fuad, the “planner” of the attack on Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights. This top commander was killed in the attack.
Al Jazeera reported that at least three people, including two children, were killed in the attack.
The name of the slain commander was mentioned in the Israeli press as Fuad Shukar. who is also known as Al-Hajj Mohsen. Fuad is Hezbollah’s chief of staff and the group’s second-in-command.
However, a source in Hezbollah denied reports that Fuad was killed to Russian media outlet Sputnik. They claim that the Israeli attack on Fuad failed.
Earlier, Hezbollah said in a statement, “Commander Fuad Shukr (al-Hajj Mohsen) was present in the building attacked by the Zionist enemy. Work is underway to remove the debris from the attack. We are still waiting to know about the fate of our commander and other citizens.”
Lebanon’s local media also reported that the assassination attempt on the Hezbollah commander had failed. He left the building before he became the target of the attack.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the Israeli attack on Beirut. He described the attack as a ‘criminal act’. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the Israeli attack a “violation of international law”.
