India successfully test-fired anti-submarine smart missile. Its name is ‘Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo’ (abbreviated as ‘SMART’). It is basically a sophisticated anti-submarine missile made in indigenous technology.
India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) conducted this successful test from APJ Abdul Kalam Island on the Odisha coast on Wednesday.
The successful test of the supersonic ‘Smart’ is a new feather in DRDO’s crown, the Indian Ministry of Defense has said.
These missile light torpedoes can rapidly target submarines. As a result, the Indian Navy will have an advantage in dealing with the enemy in war situations.
According to DRDO sources, the first test of the solid-fuelled ‘Smart’ took place last year. Then step by step its modernization is going on.
On Wednesday, the ‘Smart’ was launched from a ‘Ground Mobile Launcher’ (typically a missile truck) off the coast of Odisha. DRDO scientists then tested the missile’s guidance system and the targeting capability of parachute-landed torpedoes.
