At the time, he pledged to be the successor of President Joko Widodo, who has led the country for the past 10 years, and the leader of all Indonesian citizens.

Prabowo Subianto, 73, was elected president in a landslide victory in February this year. He previously served as Defense Minister in Widodo’s cabinet.

In an emotional inauguration speech, he pledged to be a leader of all Indonesians, regardless of political differences, and ensure the safety and welfare of the country’s most vulnerable.

Retired Army General Prabowo cited national unity and food security as top priorities of his administration.

He also promised that all of Indonesia’s natural resources would be managed for the greater good of the people and that his predecessor’s policies would continue. These include bans on industrialization of mining products and export of raw minerals and ores.

Subianto said, we will fulfill this oath as best we can and with responsibility. Ensure priority of all people. Even the rights of those who did not vote for us.
