The Indonesian government has officially banned the iPhone 16 and all new Apple products.
The government has taken this stance against Apple for not fulfilling its investment promises in the country, according to a report by the Economic Times.
According to Indonesian law, 40 percent of a business entity’s total purchasing budget in that country must be spent on local products or services.
Apple had promised to invest a total of $109 million in Indonesia to comply with the law. It also promised to set up a research institute called ‘Apple Academy’ in Indonesia to fulfill the 40 percent quota.
But according to the Indonesian government, Apple has failed to fulfill that promise. Instead of $109 million, it has invested $95 million in the local economy of Indonesia. In response, the central government has imposed a ban on Apple products. All new products of the company, such as the iPhone 16 and Apple Watch Series 10, have been banned.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry has blocked the iPhone’s EMEI certificate. Which means that legally no one can use the new iPhone in that country. If anyone sees an iPhone 16 in their hands, they have also been requested to report it to the authorities.
Apple launched the iPhone 16 in September. According to Bloomberg, about nine thousand sets of this phone have entered Indonesia so far.
