Ismail Haniyeh, the political head of Hamas, was killed in Tehran, Iran on July 31. Hamas, Iran and Palestine have been blaming Israel since this incident. This time, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is saying that Israel is fully responsible for the death of Haniya.
A meeting of the OIC was held in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday with 57 members. The OIC issued a statement after that meeting. In a statement, the organization called the killing of Haniya a “heinous attack” and blamed Israel, the illegal occupying power, entirely. At the same time, they described the matter as a “serious violation” of Iran’s sovereignty.
In this regard, OIC Chairman and Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara said the “heinous” killing of Hania and the ongoing war in Gaza could lead to a regional conflict.
In this regard, he said, “Islamic Republic of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity has been violated.” By assassinating a political leader on Iranian soil is an act that cannot be seen in isolation. This dastardly act will only serve to heighten the existing tension. That could lead to a wider conflict and involve the entire region.’
Meanwhile, after Haniya’s murder, Israel issued a stern warning to Israel. However, the United States is asking Iran and Israel to remain calm. According to US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, increasing tensions over this issue will make every problem in the region worse.
“The Israeli government will not take any steps to escalate the conflict,” Miller said. The message we’re sending to everyone is: Look, this is obviously a very critical time for the region. Tensions are rising. However, we are at the final stage of the ceasefire agreement. Because if it doesn’t, every problem in the region is likely to get worse.’
