As a result, many were burned alive and died there. The Israeli attack on the refugee camp has caused a storm of condemnation in the country. United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the Israeli airstrike. He said that attacks were also carried out where innocent civilians had taken refuge. This act of Israel is very condemnable and sad. There is no safe place in Gaza anymore. The fear that the people there are in should end.
Egypt also condemned the targeting of innocent civilians in Gaza. It said it was part of a systematic Israeli policy aimed at expanding the scope of death and destruction in Gaza.
Qatar condemned it as a dangerous violation of international law. Jordan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia have also condemned Israel’s continued killings.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed to bring “barbarians and murderers” to justice. He said that he will do everything possible for this.
European Union leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron have expressed anger towards Israel. Martin Griffiths, UN Under-Secretary for Humanitarian Aid and Emergency Relief, commented that Israel’s “impunity cannot continue” regarding the Rafah attack.
In a message on social media X, Griffiths wrote, ‘Another terrifying update from Gaza. Many people were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Rafah on Sunday night, many of whom were burned alive. Such impunity cannot continue. Protect civilians. Give them a chance to find a safe place. Griffiths also called for immediate action to protect the citizens of Gaza.
Although the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled to stop the attack on Rafah, Israel is not complying with it in any way. On the contrary, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel has announced that he will continue the attack and war in Rafah despite widespread criticism from international groups.
Speaking to parliament on Monday, Netanyahu said Sunday’s airstrike was a “sad mistake”. But I am not stopping the war for that. The battle will continue until all our goals are met. More than 36,000 Palestinians have been killed so far in the war that began on October 7. Most of the dead were women and children. The massacre is still going on.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council has called an emergency meeting on Tuesday regarding the air strike in Rafah. Algeria called this meeting in support of Slovenia. The meeting is scheduled to be held behind closed doors, the news agency Deutsche Welle reported, citing officials.
