Israel wants Russia to participate in peace efforts to end the conflict with Hezbollah. Israeli media even claimed that Israeli officials are optimistic about Russia’s active role in these talks.
According to Israeli media reports, Netanyahu’s government believes that Moscow’s involvement can stabilize a future peace agreement and reduce dependence on the United States to some extent.
Citing a reliable source, Israeli media RT reported, “Russian government officials will play a special role in implementing the peace agreement with Hezbollah and preventing the situation in Lebanon from getting worse.”
In this regard, former Israeli official Orna Mizrahi said in an interview with Newsweek, “Israel always prioritizes the United States in all areas. However, you have to keep in mind that Russia has ‘good relations’ with Iran. Which could play an important role in reaching a stable agreement with Lebanon in the future.”
He added, “Russia is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and if we want to reach a new ceasefire proposal, we want Russia to approve it.”
According to Israeli media reports, negotiations on a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon have already reached an advanced stage.
It is reported that US President Joe Biden’s envoy to mediate between Israel and Lebanon, Amos Hochstein, reached a preliminary agreement during a visit to Beirut this week.
