Israel’s ground offensive in Lebanon begins, US says

After killing Hassan Nasrallah, head of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, Israel has started a ground operation in violation of the country’s sovereignty. In this situation, Iran can take any aggressive action against Israel on behalf of Hezbollah. US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin warned Iran about such a threat.

He said that Iran will suffer “terrible consequences” if it attacks Israel. He warned in a tweet.

Lloyd Austin said, “I spoke today (Tuesday) with Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant about conducting the operation.” I want to make it clear that the United States supports Israel’s right to self-defense. We have agreed on ground operations along the border. So that Hezbollah cannot launch an October 7 style attack on Israel like Hamas.

“I reaffirm that a diplomatic solution is needed to ensure that civilians on both sides of the border can safely return to their homes,” he said.

“I reiterate the serious consequences for Iran if it chooses to launch a direct military attack against Israel,” Austin said.

He also said the US military is “well positioned” to protect “US personnel, partners and allies” in the region in the face of threats from Iran and Iran-backed terrorist organizations.
