The country’s law and order forces are conducting a massive operation to catch expatriates staying illegally in Kuwait.

On Friday, a surprise operation was carried out by blocking the Binaid Al Ghar area, a suburb of the capital, Kuwait City. Many people were arrested at that time.
City Governor Abdullah Salem said that he himself was present in this operation along with high-ranking security officers. He said, this surprise operation is a part of our other operations.

A similar operation was conducted in Al Fawarnia, the southern part of Kuwait City. The country’s Ministry of Interior said that many people have been arrested there.

Legal action will be taken against those arrested and they will be sent back to their country. However, it has not been specified exactly how many such measures will be taken against.

The country’s Ministry of Interior also said that such operations will continue against expatriates who could not validate their documents. In March this year, illegal immigrants in Kuwait were given a three-month period to become legal. This time, no action was taken against anyone. But even at this time, the country is being strict against those who could not be legal.

Even during these three months, illegal immigrants are given the opportunity to return to their country without any jail sentence. Those who used the opportunity to leave Kuwait can re-enter by legal means if they wish.

Altogether 4.8 million people live in Kuwait. Out of which 3.3 million are foreigners. The country depends on expatriates. However, in recent times, they have started taking a strict stance against illegal immigrants.
