New Uzbekistan Envoy Arrives in Kabul

A source told TOLOnews that Oybek Usmanov has arrived in Kabul as the new Uzbekistan ambassador and is expected to present his credentials to the prime minister in the coming days.

Usmanov succeeds Yadgar Shadmanov, the former ambassador to Afghanistan, who served for nearly twelve years in the country.

So far, the Islamic Emirate has not officially commented on this matter.

Moeen Gul Samkanai, a political analyst, stressed the significance of relations with Uzbekistan, stating: “Uzbekistan is an important neighbor in the economic sector, connecting us to all Central Asian countries. Now that a new ambassador has been appointed, this decision signals an intention to renew their interactions with Afghanistan.”

Earlier, some Uzbekistan media outlets also reported that Uzbekistan’s new ambassador to Afghanistan had arrived in Kabul.

In a report, Dunyo News stated: “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan Oybek Usmanov, arrived in the capital of Afghanistan. Oybek Usmanov has succeeded Yadgarkhoja Shadmanov, who worked as the Ambassador to Kabul from 2012 to 2024.”

“An embassy is a means to establish good relations and strengthens and improves relations between the two countries. In my opinion, this is good news and benefits Afghanistan,” Sayed Akbar Agha, a political analyst told TOLOnews.

Usmanov, 62, has held various positions, including serving as Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister from 2011 to 2012, and as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Pakistan and Egypt.
