Court extends judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. An accountability court in Rawalpindi made the decision on Monday in view of a fresh Toshakhana reference.
Accountability Court judge Javed Rana conducted the hearing on the new Toshakhana reference related to a jewelery set gifted by the Saudi crown prince. The hearing was attended by lawyers for the Khan couple and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor.
The Saudi crown prince gifted a jewelery set to former first lady Bushra when Imran was the country’s prime minister from 2018 to 2022. This couple did not submit it to Toshakhana later. That is what this case is about. They have been remanded for further information in that regard.
At the beginning of the hearing, defense lawyer Salman Safdar argued that the new reference is similar to the previous one, so two separate references cannot be filed on the same charge.
In this regard, the prosecutor said, the claim of the lawyer of the accused can be proved only if the details of both the references match. In this regard, the prosecutor requested the court to summon the judicial records of the old Toshakhana reference, but the court rejected the request.
The judge later extended the judicial remand of the former prime minister and his wife till September 16. The hearing has been adjourned till September 6.
