Islamabad Police have arrested Pakistan’s controversial rights activist and lawyer Iman Mazari and her husband Abdul Hadi. A case has been filed against them on charges of interfering in government affairs.
According to police sources, a case was filed against Mazari and her husband at Abpara Police Station a week ago. The couple is accused of breaking the security fence set up for the security of the cricket team. The legal scrutiny process of the case is currently underway.
It is also learned that Mazari and a police warden exchanged heated words over the removal of security barriers for the England cricket team touring Pakistan. Mazari and her husband were arrested about a week later in the wake of this.
In a post on Edite X, her mother, politician Shirin Mazari, called the situation ‘state fascism’. She also claimed that the police humiliated Iman during the incident. Eman was deliberately pushed into a police barricade and injured. She has held the police responsible for the incident, describing it as ‘terrorism’.
It is worth noting that Eman Mazari is a prominent rights activist and lawyer in Pakistan. Her mother is politician Shireen Mazari. In 2017, Eman strongly criticized the military’s involvement in the deal between the government and protesters. In 2020, she came into the spotlight by fighting for journalists who criticized the government.
