Saudi Arabia changed the labor law

The government of the Middle Eastern country of Saudi Arabia is bringing some new changes to the existing labor laws. As a result of the amendment, workers are expected to get more opportunities in the country’s workplace. It is known that these amendments will be effective next February.

Gulf News reported in a report on Friday (September 6) that the details of the amendments were revealed recently. A decree in this regard has already been issued. It can be seen that several paragraphs have been changed and two new paragraphs have been added. Besides, 7 have been excluded.

The Saudi Labor Law has increased maternity leave from 10 weeks to 12 weeks. Leave has been extended to 3 days in case of attending the death of brothers and sisters. From now on, the employee’s probationary period under the Saudi Labor Law will be 180 days.

In addition to financial matters in the case of overtime, employees can also claim vacation time. One month before leaving the job should be informed. Earlier this time was two months. From now on, employers will have to pay for accommodation or lodging expenses and travel or commuting expenses of employees.

Some amendments have been made in the law for foreign workers as well. It is said that foreign workers must be employed as per special agreement. The current law has not fixed the specific time in this regard. It is said that the employment of this contract will be fixed according to the duration of the work permit.

Now the contract period is being considered for 1 year. However, the matter is not finalized yet. This period will come into force after the approval of the Government.
