After raging in the Philippines, the powerful super typhoon ‘Yagi’ is heading towards the southern state of China. It is expected to be the strongest storm to hit China this year. Schools have been closed and flights canceled in China’s Hainan province due to the storm.

Japan named Super Typhoon Yagi. It means goat. Last week it hit the Philippines with massive force.

It is known that the storm will hit the maximum speed of 209 km. This is going to be the second strongest cyclone in the world this year after Hurricane Beryl of category 5 created in the Atlantic Ocean. Meteorologists said the typhoon could hit the South China Sea on Friday.

It was located 610 km southeast of Zhanjiang city in Guangdong province, the epicenter of Yagi on Thursday morning. According to the country’s meteorological department, Yagi is moving towards China’s southern provinces at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour.

Yagi is likely to have the most impact on Guangdong and Hainan provinces. Authorities issued warnings of possible landslides in Qionghai and Dianbai. Train and boat traffic in Hainan has already been suspended to deal with Yagi’s damage.

Educational institutions in southern China, including Hong Kong and Macau, have been closed. A high alert has been issued. Hong Kong’s coastal residents have been evacuated to safe locations.
