Interim government chief advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, we have the right to get the water of Teesta river. I will discuss Teesta water distribution with India. No country is benefiting from long pending issues.
Dr. said this recently in an interview given to the Indian news agency PTI at his residence in Dhaka. Yunus.
It would have been better if I knew how much water I would get, said the chief adviser. Even if I’m not happy with the amount of water, that’s no problem. This matter must be resolved. Because sitting on the issue of water distribution is not getting any work done.
On the question of whether the interim government will pressure India on Teesta water distribution. Yunus said, the word pressure is too big. I’m not saying this. We will discuss. We have to sit together and solve the problem.
In 2011, the signing of the Teesta water sharing agreement was almost finalized during the visit of then Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Dhaka. However, the West Bengal Chief Minister refused to ratify the agreement and the deal did not take place. Then Mamata claimed that there is a water crisis in her state.
Dr. Yunus said, Teesta water distribution is not a new issue, it is a very old issue. We have talked about this several times. Even the Pakistan period has been talked about. We all wanted to solve it, the Indian government was also ready for it. But the West Bengal government was not ready. We want to solve it.
The Nobel laureate economist also commented that we have the right to get water as a country of Bhati.
