Journalist Zhang Zhan, who reported on the first outbreak of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China, was released on Monday after four years.
Former lawyer Zhang Zhan traveled to Wuhan in February 2020. At that time, he published various information reports on X, YouTube and WeChat about this epidemic that spread worldwide. These reports are widely discussed on social media. After that he fell under the fire of the government.
According to the charge sheet against him, Zhang spread false information on WeChat, Twitter and YouTube using text, video and other media. Apart from this, he was also accused of spreading bad information about the virus situation in Wuhan by giving interviews to foreign media.
The outbreak of the coronavirus began in Wuhan, the capital of China’s Hubei province. At that time, there were many cases of journalists being arrested for reporting on Corona. Zhang is a former lawyer. He was charged with ‘disrupting fights and stirring up trouble’. Dissidents are often accused of this in China.
After his arrest, Zhang went on hunger strike to protest his arrest. Later, when his life was in danger, the authorities put a tube in his nose and forced him to eat.
