Apple has removed social media apps Threads and WhatsApp from China’s App Store. The tech giant had to take this step at the behest of the Chinese government in the interest of national security.
This information is known in the report of the news agency Reuters.
According to the report, only the Chinese branch of the App Store has made this change. However, residents of other countries and regions can still download these two apps.
Meta, the company that owns WhatsApp and Threads apps, said that the Chinese government itself gave them this order due to national security concerns. Even if you don’t agree with the decision taken by the government, you have to act according to the Chinese government’s words.
Although the services of Threads and WhatsApp have been stopped in China, Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and other meta apps will remain in the App Store.
