North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un has repeatedly threatened nuclear attacks against neighboring South Korea and its allies. North Korea has been conducting nuclear weapons tests at a record rate for a long time, increasing the concern of the international community.
This time, Kim said, if any country tries to launch a military attack on his country, in that case, nuclear weapons will be used without any hesitation. The country’s state media KCNA reported the news on Friday (October 4).
Kim said, “If the enemy attempts to attack Pyongyang’s territory by violating North Korea’s sovereignty…we will use all offensive forces at our disposal, including nuclear weapons, without hesitation.”
Kim made the remarks during a visit to a special forces military training base west of Pyongyang on Wednesday, KCNA reported.
Earlier this week, South Korean President Eun Suk-yeol threatened to “end the North Korean regime” if Pyongyang uses nuclear weapons. In view of this, Kim responded.
“If North Korea tries to use nuclear weapons, it will face a strong and overwhelming response from our military and the US-Korea alliance,” Yun said. On that day, the regime of North Korea will end.
The KCN report also said that in response to these comments, Kim referred to the South Korean leader as a ‘puppet’ and ‘an unusual person’.
Thousands of US troops are stationed in South Korea. South Korea has no nuclear weapons of its own. However, the country receives US military aid.
North Korea conducted its first nuclear test in 2006. Currently under UN sanctions for prohibited weapons programs. North Korea released photos of its uranium enrichment program for the first time in recent times. Westerners believe Pyongyang is building more centrifuges to boost its nuclear arsenal.
