Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in North Korea. He landed at the airport in Pyongyang on Wednesday (June 19) local time.

After Putin got off the plane, he was greeted by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. At this time there was a discussion between the leaders of the two countries. At the same time, they agreed to improve relations between the two countries, North Korea’s state news agency said.

Putin last visited North Korea in July 2000. North’s leader Kim invited him to visit Pyongyang again during his visit to Russia in September last year. Responding to that invitation, Putin set foot on the northern soil.

According to Al Jazeera in their report, there is a delegation of important people from different departments of the country on the trip with Putin. These individuals include Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belosov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Putin’s chief deputy prime minister for energy affairs, Alexander Novak.

A partnership agreement between Russia and North Korea will be signed during the visit, said Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign policy adviser.

He said that the agreement will further increase the cooperation between the two countries. This agreement will be signed keeping in mind what has happened between the two countries on various issues including international politics, economy and security in the last few years. However, this agreement is not directly targeting any country. But Putin’s visit to North Korea is not viewed well by the West, especially South Korea and the United States.
