15 including newborns were killed in twin Israeli airstrikes in Gaza

At least 15 people were killed in two separate airstrikes by the occupying Israeli forces in the town of Khan Younis in the besieged Palestinian Gaza Strip.

Al-Jazeera reported this information in a report on Sunday (July 28) citing doctors.

According to the report, five people, including a four-month-old baby girl named Maria Abu Ziada, were killed in the IDPs’ tent during the airstrikes in Al-Mawasi area. Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis, is a declared humanitarian zone.

In addition, another airstrike on a house in the center of Khan Younis city killed 10 people, health officials said.

The news agency AFP reported that Israeli forces have been conducting operations around Khan Younis, including the coastal area of Al-Mawasir, since last Monday. “Today the Israeli occupation noticed… tents of displaced people on al-Mawasir al-Istabal street,” Muhammad al-Mugayer of Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency told AFP. Five dead and seven injured have been shifted to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.

On the other hand, in contact with AFP, the Israeli military said that they are investigating the attack.

Maryam Al-Astal, who lives in Al-Mawasi, said that a newborn child was killed in the attack.

“We were sitting in the tent…suddenly we heard an explosion,” he said.

He also said, “I swear”, there was no military activity in the area.

On Monday, Israel warned that its forces would carry out a “forced operation” in the Khan Younis area. The army was withdrawn from the area in April. However, 170 people have been killed in renewed fighting and military operations, the Civil Defense Agency said on Saturday.

The military said its latest operation was to intercept rocket fire. They also announced on Wednesday that troops had recovered the bodies of five Israelis captured during the October 7 attack by Hamas.

Israel’s brutal military operation in Gaza has killed at least 39,324 people so far, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
