Dhaka, Tuesday: Brazil has expressed keen interest in expanding business and investment in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on meat processing, agriculture, trade, and sports cooperation.
Brazilian Ambassador to Bangladesh Paulo Fernando Dias Feres revealed that several Brazilian companies are interested in investing in Bangladesh, especially in setting up meat processing factories. Speaking at an exchange of views with the South Asian Climate Change Journalists Forum (SACCJF), Bangladesh Chapter, the ambassador said Brazil is eager to export beef to Bangladesh at an affordable price of just one dollar per kilogram, equivalent to Tk 120–125.
He emphasized that although discussions on beef exports had advanced significantly, the process stalled after the fall of the previous government. However, he expressed optimism that once Bangladesh issues a halal certificate for Brazilian meat, the process will accelerate, opening the door for partnerships between Brazilian and Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in the cattle and dairy sectors.
“Brazil wants to be a partner in the development of cattle and milk in Bangladesh. We are also ready to provide technical assistance in agriculture,” Ambassador Fernando noted.

Highlighting broader economic ties, he added that Brazil also intends to increase imports of leather and footwear from Bangladesh. He said these issues, along with other aspects of bilateral relations, are expected to be discussed in detail at the upcoming 3rd Bangladesh-Brazil Foreign Office Consultation in Dhaka this October.
Brazil is also interested in signing memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Bangladesh in sports, agriculture, health, and defense. The ambassador specifically mentioned Brazil’s readiness to cooperate in the development of football in Bangladesh.
Earlier in the discussion, Ambassador Fernando highlighted the significance of the upcoming World Climate Conference COP-30, scheduled for November in Belém, Brazil. He criticized wealthy nations for failing to fulfill their commitments to the global climate fund but stressed that this should not deter global efforts to combat climate change.
“The world cannot afford to sit idle. We must act together to protect our planet. Journalists also have a vital role to play in raising awareness and inspiring action,” he said.
The meeting was attended by SACCJF Executive President Asaduzzaman Samrat, Secretary General Karamot Ullah Biplob, SACCJF Bangladesh Chapter President Masum Billah, General Secretary Shamsuddin Elias, Vice President Imrul Kayes, and members Minakshi Choudhury, Imran Hossain Sumon and Mithun Sarkar.
