The United States has imposed sanctions on two Chinese companies for allegedly collaborating with Russian companies to design, build and ship long-range attack drones in the war in Ukraine.

A senior official in US President Joe Biden’s administration said on Thursday that the two Chinese companies jointly designed the Russian Garpia series of long-range UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) attack drones. The drones were manufactured in China and then shipped directly to Russia.

The first Chinese company to be sanctioned by the US Treasury Department is Xiamen Limbach Aircraft Engines. The US claims that the company manufactured the engine installed in the UAV drones.

The second company is Redlepas Vector Industry Shenzhen. The company is accused of working with Russian defense company TSK Vector to facilitate the supply of drones to Russia.

According to the US Treasury Department, although the US has previously imposed sanctions on Chinese companies for supplying various components used in Russia’s military-industrial complex, this is the first sanction against Chinese companies for designing and manufacturing drones in direct collaboration with Russian companies.
