Israel has released 55 prisoners taken from the besieged Gaza. Among them is Muhammad Abu Salmiya, the director of al-Shifa, the largest hospital in northern Gaza.
They were released on Monday (July 1). This was confirmed by a Palestinian health official. AP news.
Israel’s Public Broadcasting Corporation has said that these Palestinians have been released because the prison has no capacity.
According to the media, dozens of Palestinians, including the director of Al-Shifa Hospital, Muhammad Abu Salmiya, were released as Israeli prisons overflowed with prisoners.
Freed Palestinians complain that they were constantly physically and mentally tortured in Israeli prisons. Many of them were admitted to Al-Aqsa and Al-Nasr hospitals.
After being released from prison, the director of Al-Shifa Hospital said that the Palestinian prisoners are in a miserable condition, suffering from lack of food, water and torture in prison.
He also said, “Hundreds of medical workers have been detained by Israeli forces and many Palestinian prisoners have been killed during torture.”
Netanyahu’s forces have arrested hundreds of Palestinians since the start of the Gaza offensive in October last year. It filled Israeli prisons with thousands of Palestinians. The number of prisoners in the prisons is so high that even the prison authorities do not know the exact number of prisoners there.
Abu Salamiya was arrested in a military operation from Al-Shifa Medical Complex on November 23 last year.
