The death of Ismail Hania, the head of the armed group Hamas in Iran, may lead to war in the Middle East. Iran has issued a stern warning to Israel over Haniya’s murder. As a result, the fear of Israel’s attack is increasing at any time.
Israel’s ally, the United States, is very worried about this. As a result, the President of the country, Joe Biden, is meeting with the National Security Council on Monday due to the fear of an upcoming war. Senior officials of the security team along with Kamala Harris were also present with him at that time. BBC.
Iran may retaliate against Israel. In this regard, Biden said, he has been informed about the preparations being made to help Israel prevent attacks.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said officials are working day and night to avoid tensions. Tensions in the Middle East have been on the rise since last week, centered on the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniya. Iran blamed Israel for the murder from the beginning. The country has also warned that a strict response will be given against it. However, Israel did not accept responsibility for the killing.
Besides, since the warning of the attack, many countries including the United States, the United Kingdom have asked their citizens to leave Lebanon. They fear that Lebanon-based armed group Hezbollah may support Iran in attacks against Israel.
According to US news website Axios, Biden was told at a meeting of the National Security Team that there is still no certainty about when and what type of attack Iran might launch.
But a day ago, Blinken told G-7 representatives that Iran and Hezbollah could attack Israel within 24 to 48 hours.
In a statement after the meeting, Biden said, “We are constantly monitoring the threat posed by Iran and its shadow countries.” “Diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions and preparations to assist Israel in preventing attacks are under way,” Blinken told reporters earlier in the day. “All parties must refrain from escalation.”
The US Secretary of State also said, ‘No one’s interest will be achieved in this tension. It could lead to more conflict, more violence, more insecurity.’
On the other hand, Israel killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh to prolong the ongoing war in Gaza.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas made this comment in an interview published on Tuesday by the Russian news agency RIA. British news agency Reuters reported this news. Abbas said, “It (Hania’s murder) was a very cowardly move by Israel.” I can say without a doubt that Haniya was killed with the intention of prolonging the duration and scope of the ongoing conflict.”
He also mentioned that this incident will have a negative impact on the discussion regarding the cessation of Israeli aggression and the withdrawal of troops. Abbas is going to Moscow to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin to resolve the crisis. RIA has confirmed the visit from 12 to 14 August through diplomatic sources.
Haniya, the political leader of Hamas, was killed in an attack in Tehran last week. A few hours earlier, Israel released a statement that Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukur was killed in an airstrike in Beirut, Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Russia has called for de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East following recent developments. In addition, they criticized the failure of the United States and the country’s Western allies to resolve the Palestinian issue. Moscow says that the West is incapable of realizing the importance of the 1967 borders in resolving the crisis.
