5 Bangladeshis win US elections

Republican candidate Donald Trump has won a historic victory in this year’s US presidential election. In this election, 5 American politicians of Bangladeshi origin have won the House of Representatives. All but one of them were Democrat candidates.
According to the information received from the private election results and local communities in the United States on Wednesday, the Bangladeshis who won this year’s election are – New Hampshire State Representative Abul B. Khan (Republican), New Jersey Plainsboro Township Councilman Dr. Nuran Nabi, Connecticut State Senator Masudur Rahman, Democratic candidate for the post of State Senator in Georgia District Five Sheikh Mujahidur Rahman Chandan, and Senator Nabila Islam from another district in the same state.
Among them, Councilman Dr. Nuran Nabi has been elected for the fifth time. He has been in this position for 14 consecutive years since 2007. There is a mayor and 5 councilmen in his township. He is in charge of cultural and heritage issues as a councilman.
In addition, Abul B. Khan of New Hampshire has been elected to the legislature six times.
Abul Khan said, “I am very happy. The people have elected me with the highest number of votes for six times. Although I passed as a Republican, now I will work as a representative of people from all walks of life, all parties. Our government has always been in favor of not increasing taxes. In favor of improving education and health. We will work towards that goal.
Sheikh Mujahidur Rahman Chandan, a son of Kishoreganj, has won the election from Georgia’s District-5 by a landslide for the fourth consecutive time. He received 70 percent more votes than his Republican rival Lisa Babbage. He is the first Bangladeshi-American there and the first Muslim legislator in Georgia.
Chandan, the son of Sarachar’s heroic freedom fighter Nojibur Rahman, went to the United States for higher education in 1981. He earned a BBA degree from the University of Georgia. The 63-year-old Chandan, who won for the fourth time in a row, expressed his gratitude to the diaspora. He thanked every person in Bangladesh and said that he was emotional to be a senator in a society of multinational bridges with everyone’s love and support.
All the elected Bangladeshi Americans are representatives of the highest rank at the state level in the United States. So far, no Bangladeshi-American has been elected to the federal level, that is, the Senate or Congress.
According to local sources, in addition to the five elected, several Bangladeshi-Americans from other states including Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey and others have participated in county and other elections. However, their results are not yet known.
Along with the US presidential election on Tuesday, voters also cast their votes in the election of senators for 435 seats in the lower house of Congress, the House of Representatives, and 34 seats in the Senate.
The AP reported that in the Senate results that have been released so far, Republicans have already secured 52 seats and Democrats have won 44 seats. And in the House of Representatives, Republicans have won 209 seats and Democrats have won 187 seats.
