
China’s grain production has increased more than 5 times in 75 years

Crop production in 2023 is 1.3908 trillion quintals, an increase of 1 trillion quintals or 5.1 times over 1949. Crop production per unit area has also increased tremendously.
These data were obtained from a series of reports released today (Tuesday) by the National Bureau of Statistics of China on the achievements of economic and social development in the 75 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The report shows that the production of cash crops is increasing vigorously along with the continuous improvement in the living standards of the residents and changes in the food structure. The modernization and scale-up process of China’s animal husbandry industry has also accelerated since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Mass production capacity has improved and meat, egg and milk production has been at the top of the world for many years.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the country has continued to promote the construction of high-quality farmland, including progress in securing irrigation water sources. The construction and transformation of the irrigation sector has improved significantly and the agricultural base has been strengthened.
The report also said that in the past 75 years, the development of agricultural science and technology in China has made great progress from small to large, from weak to strong. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has accelerated high-level scientific and technological self-reliance, fostered and developed new agricultural productivity, accelerated the development of agricultural science and technology, improved the innovation system, and greatly strengthened the innovation capacity. In 2023, the contribution rate of China’s agricultural science and technology progress was 63.2 percent, an increase of 8.7 percent over 2012, and the overall level of agricultural science and technology entered the first class in the world.
