Thousands of people die of loneliness in South Korea every year. Many become depressed and cut off from social relationships and bonds. Most of them are middle-aged men. They live a lonely life, isolated from family and friends, and die alone. Sometimes it takes days or even weeks for their bodies to be found. In the country, “lonely death” is known as “godoksa” in Korean.

South Korea is one of the loneliest countries in the world. It has the lowest birth rate in the world. Loneliness and isolation have become a major problem across the country, putting pressure on the government.

The city authorities of the bustling capital Seoul have announced that they will create a city where no one is alone within the next five years. They will spend 451.3 billion won (about $327 million) on this.

In addition, the government has decided to provide financial assistance to young people to return to normal society from their lonely lives. They will provide financial assistance of up to 650,000 won per month to socially isolated young people. This allowance scheme has been launched to encourage young people in crisis to return to society.
