Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for attacks on three ships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea. The group said on Monday that it was part of an effort to enforce a naval blockade on Israel.

Reuters reported on Tuesday. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sariya said in a televised address that the ships were heading to Israeli ports, which is why they were attacked.

All three ships were registered in Liberia. Another ship, the SC Montreal, was reportedly targeted by the Houthis in the Arabian Sea while en route from Port Victoria in the Seychelles to Salalah in Oman.

The third ship was targeted by the Houthis while en route to Salalah from the western Indian Ocean.

British maritime security firm Ambre said a commercial ship was hit by two explosions 14 nautical miles southwest of Al Dhubab in Yemen.
