Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered preparations for a “retaliatory strike” against the occupying Israel. Iran is extremely angry with Israel over various issues, including the conflict in Gaza and Lebanon. There have already been attacks and counterattacks between the two sides.
The US media outlet The New York Times has published a report on this, citing Iranian officials. Citing them, another media outlet, The Times of Israel, reported on Thursday (October 31) that Iran will not attack before the US elections on November 5. However, some other media outlets, citing sources, say that Iran may attack Israel before the US elections.
The New York Times, citing three officials involved in Tehran’s war plans, said that Supreme Leader Khamenei ordered his Supreme National Security Council to plan (the attack) on October 28 after learning about the extent of the damage caused by the Israeli attack. The report also said that Iranian military officials are drawing up a list of potential Israeli military targets.
The ayatollah is said to have made his decision after reviewing the details of the attack on Tehran’s missile production center and defense systems and the damage reports. He told his generals, “We cannot remain indifferent to the Zionist attacks. Our lack of response means admitting defeat to Israel.”
According to Iranian media, General Ali Fadavi, deputy commander of the country’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, said, “Our response to the Zionist aggression is certain. In 40 years, we have never left any aggression unanswered. We are capable of destroying everything the Zionists have in one operation.”
