The death toll from floods caused by Typhoon Yagi in Myanmar has risen to 384. At least 89 people are still missing.

The country’s junta government reported this information on Saturday (September 21).

Yagi was the strongest storm in Asia this year. Earlier this month, it rampaged through Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. The storm brought heavy rains followed by severe flooding and landslides across the region. Hundreds of people lost their lives.

The junta government’s information team said 384 people had died and 89 were missing in Myanmar as of Saturday.

Millions of people have already been displaced in the Southeast Asian country after more than three years of conflict following a 2021 military coup. On top of that, the suffering of Myanmar people has increased in recent disasters.

The country’s military junta issued a rare appeal for foreign aid last week to deal with the situation.

The United Nations has said that at least 887,000 people have been affected by Typhoon Yagi in Myanmar.
