Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that he will intensify operations against the PKK or YPG terrorist group in Syria and Iraq after five people were killed in a recent terrorist attack in the capital Ankara.
On his way back from the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, the Turkish president said that the attack was carried out by infiltration from Syria and that operations were carried out in 40 places overnight.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Ministry of War has blamed the PKK or YPG terrorist group for the attack. After the incident, it has been claimed that more than a hundred PKK or YPG facilities were destroyed in air strikes in Syria and Iraq and several terrorists were killed.
In this regard, Erdogan said on Friday that Turkey will never compromise on the root cause of terrorism and that they will continue to work hard to defeat the PKK or YPG terrorists.
However, the United States has been supporting Turkey’s policy of eliminating terrorism. In addition, US-Turkish relations are often strained due to the support for the YPG.
Hopes to restore relations with Syria
Meanwhile, Turkey is eager to restore relations with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Especially to reduce the influence of the PKK or YPG in the border areas. Erdogan has also requested Russian President Vladimir Putin to pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to sit for talks.
In this context, the restoration of relations between the two neighboring countries and the Assad-Erdogan meeting are now in a very advanced stage.
Support for Palestine
On the other hand, the Turkish President has called for a military embargo against Israel at the United Nations for its violence in Gaza and attacks on Palestinian civilians.
In this regard, Erdogan said, “As a unity of humanity, we want to make this work successful and open the door to lasting peace.”
