The European Union (EU) is a coalition of European countries that have agreed to recognize Palestine as a state. It is expected that most of the countries of the alliance will recognize Palestine before the end of next May.
European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell told reporters on Monday.
The World Economic Forum, the world’s largest economic alliance, is holding a special conference in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Borel has come to attend the conference as an EU representative.
Speaking to reporters at the end of the conference, Borrell said that EU members Spain, Ireland, Malta and Slovenia are the most advanced in this regard.
Last March, these three countries said that they are working to recognize Palestine as a state.
In response to this news, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that recognizing Palestine as a state would amount to ‘declaring a prize for terrorism’.
