Palestinian independence group Hamas has agreed to the UN Secretary-General’s proposal for a week-long ceasefire in the besieged Gaza.
In a recent interview, Hamas spokesman Jihad Taha gave this information.
According to IRNA’s report, a Hamas spokesman said in an interview with the New Arab website that when UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres proposed a week-long ceasefire, the Palestinian independence movement accepted and announced the terms of their agreement on August 16.
Jihad Taha said Hamas called on all humanitarian organizations and institutions to fulfill their humanitarian obligations towards the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and that the occupying Israelis must agree to the ceasefire. They should not avoid the issue and should not postpone it or put forward alternative terms.
At the same time, he urged Israel to refrain from complying with the humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
The Hamas spokesman added that the international community must thwart the inhumane actions of the Israeli occupation. In particular, he urged them to foil their efforts to obstruct the plan to vaccinate nearly 640,000 children under the age of 10 years as well as 50 children born after October 7.
A humanitarian ceasefire will take effect in Gaza in the next few days to pave the way for the implementation of the polio vaccination campaign, the New Arab website said, citing some Egyptian sources.
