The saying goes, ‘Guest Narayan’ – now neighboring India is using that phrase as its foreign policy. Instead of responding to the extradition of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, the Narendra Modi government has extended her visa again.

The International Crimes Tribunal issued a second arrest warrant against Hasina on Monday on charges of crimes against humanity. In addition, the government has canceled the passports of 97 people including Hasina. However, without taking these into account, India has extended Hasina’s visa again.

She fled the country on August 5 during the mass uprising and took refuge in New Delhi. Dhaka has already asked for her return through a note verbale to face justice. And in the meantime, Delhi has extended Hasina’s visa again.

An Indian government source told News-18 on Thursday (January 9) that the central government has extended Hasina’s visa so that she can stay in India for a long time (a long-term process). He said that the visa extension was done under special arrangements in accordance with India’s policy of treating guests like gods.

The source said that she stayed in India for a long time after her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed by army personnel in 1975.

The quota reform movement began in July last year. However, when the banned Chhatra League and law enforcement attacked the peaceful movement and a video of Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, was shot on July 16, it turned into an anti-Hasina movement. Hundreds of people were shot dead in the process of suppressing the movement. But despite this, ordinary people entered Hasina’s official residence on August 5. Sheikh Hasina fled to Delhi that day to escape public anger.
