A UK oil tanker has been attacked by Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Surrey confirmed the information in a televised address on Friday.

He said that their fighters were able to directly attack the UK oil tanker ‘Andromeda Star’ using naval missiles.

In addition, he also reported the downing of a US drone in the airspace of Yemen’s Saada region.

The Houthis started attacking US, UK and Israeli ships sailing in the Red Sea from November last year. They said that they are targeting the ships of these countries as part of their solidarity with the Gazans of Palestine.

UK maritime safety agency AMBRE reported on Friday (April 26) that a ship had been attacked in the Red Sea. At the time, it was believed that the Houthis had once again targeted a ship.

A few hours later, Houthi spokesman Yahya Surrey said that missiles fired by their fighters hit the British ship. This red and black colored tanker is quite a big ship. It is not known how much oil was in it at the time of the attack. Besides, the extent of damage to the ship is not yet clear.

Earlier, the Houthis had attacked the UK ship. A British ship named Rubimar was heavily damaged in an attack by an armed rebel group last February. After floating for several days, it sank to the bottom of the ocean on March 2. Although attempts were made to take the ship ashore. But the rescuers did not succeed.
