The Bangladesh issue was also discussed in the Indian Parliament on Thursday. NDTV reported that several members of the Lok Sabha (Parliament) spoke about Bangladesh. They asked whether there has been an increase in vandalism of Hindu temples and idols in Bangladesh. Has the Indian government raised this issue with the interim government in Bangladesh?
In response to these questions, Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh told the Parliament, “In the last few months, there have been reports of vandalism of Hindu temples and idols in Bangladesh. The Indian government has expressed its concern in this regard. These include the attack on a puja mandap in Tanti Bazar and the theft of a gold crown from the Kali temple in Satkhira during Durga Puja. The Indian government has urged the Bangladesh government to ensure the security of places of worship of all minorities, including Hindus. In addition, India has told Bangladesh that the interim government is responsible for ensuring the security of all citizens of the country, including minorities.”
Earlier, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement after the arrest of Chinmoy Das. Later, Bangladesh issued a counter statement saying, “This is an internal matter of Dhaka.”
