A fire broke out in the front landing gear of a Saudia Airlines passenger plane while landing at Pakistan airport. However, there were no casualties. The passengers and crew of the aircraft have been safely evacuated.
The accident took place at the country’s Peshawar airport on Thursday (July 11).
The country’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said no one was injured in the incident at Peshawar airport. 276 passengers and 21 crew members of the plane were safely evacuated.
Pakistan’s local media quoted CAA spokesman Saifullah as saying that officials at the airport’s air traffic control room saw smoke and sparks on the front left landing gear of the Saudia Airlines plane. They alerted the plane’s pilot, airport fire service and rescue agencies.
Later, as soon as the plane landed, the fire service personnel quickly extinguished the fire. CAA spokesperson Saifullah said the fire service personnel brought the fire of the aircraft’s landing gear under control in a very short time. As a result, the plane was saved from a major accident.
In a statement on social media X, Saudi Arabia’s state-owned airline, Saudia Airlines, said that its flight SV792 departed from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to Peshawar. Later, smoke emanated from one of the plane’s tires while landing at Peshawar International Airport in Pakistan.
According to the statement, the concerned authorities were informed after the plane was grounded immediately in this incident. All passengers and crew of the aircraft were safely evacuated through the slide. Experts are investigating the plane to find out if there is any technical fault.
Saudia Airlines said the seven-year-old Airbus A330-300 aircraft is currently undergoing extensive tests to ensure its safety.
