Macron calls for ‘arms embargo’, says Netanyahu
French President Emmanuel Macron recently called for an ‘arms embargo’ against Israel in the wake of Israel’s ongoing war against the Gaza Strip. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted sharply to this.
“I think the most important thing today is that we return to a political solution and stop supplying arms to the war in Gaza,” Macron said in an interview on Saturday.
41,825 Palestinians have been killed so far in the ongoing Israeli military operation since October 7 last year. Besides, about one lakh people were injured. Most of them are women and children.
In such a context, the French president said, “I think we are not being heard.” He also called Israel’s determination to continue the war in Gaza a ‘big mistake’.
In response to Macron’s remarks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday called his call “shameful” and accused Israel of “fighting to defend itself on seven fronts against the enemies of civilization.”
The Israeli Prime Minister claimed that all civilized countries should stand by Israel. Because they claim Israel’s attack is necessary for ‘world peace and security’.
At the time, Netanyahu confidently stated that Israel would continue its offensive “until victory,” with or without the support of its allies.
Meanwhile, in response to Netanyahu’s statement, Macron’s office said that France was Israel’s “steadfast friend”.
France continued to supply Israel with arms even after the war in Gaza broke out. However, under an arms trade agreement signed in 2014, France was obliged to suspend arms exports if Israel launched a military attack against the Sliver coastal population.
On the other hand, it has been noted that since the start of the war in Gaza, Israel’s allies, led by the United States and Germany, have supplied the country with millions of dollars worth of weapons. With which Israel continues to kill thousands of Palestinians. Source: Meher News Agency
