Starting January 2, 2025, Mongolia will officially use both the Cyrillic and traditional Mongolian scripts in state and local government documents, as mandated by the Law on the Mongolian Language, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports, citing Montsame.

A nationwide survey in 2021 assessed state employees’ readiness to adopt the traditional script. Approximately 150,000 public servants participated, with over half indicating they were prepared to incorporate the script into their official work, while 46.4% expressed reservations.

Govi-Altai Province recorded the highest readiness, with 74.7% of its public servants confident in their ability to work with both scripts. Further analysis of the 200,000 public servants surveyed revealed that 53.6% (69,400 individuals) began learning the traditional script in elementary school.

The traditional Mongolian script, first developed in the 13th century during the Mongol Empire, is written vertically from top to bottom and read from left to right.

Earlier, Kazinform News Agency reported that Mongolian Cabinet had approved tax relief measures for entities investing in Ulaanbaatar.
