More than 100,000 people have been displaced due to widespread flooding caused by incessant rains in the northern states of Malaysia, the country’s disaster officials said on Saturday.
The ongoing natural disaster in the country has surpassed the terrible flood situation in 2014. Disaster officials fear that the number of displaced people may increase further as heavy rains continue. Four people have died in the ongoing natural disaster in the regions of Kelantan, Terengganu and Sarawak.
According to the National Disaster Management Agency, the flood has caused extensive damage in the state of Kelantan. 63 percent of the state, or 122,631 people, have been displaced. About 35,000 people have been evacuated to safer places in Terengganu. Displacement has been reported from seven other states.
Heavy rains that began earlier this week caused widespread flooding in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. In that city, people can be seen walking along the streets in waist-deep water.
