Tel Aviv is scrambling to decide what to do in response to Iran’s ballistic missile attack inside Israel. Israel is working closely with Washington on the scale of the attack on Iran.
Following that, US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on the phone on Wednesday about the attack on Iran. Meanwhile, Biden reiterated the unwavering support of the United States to Israel in any situation. This information was reported from the White House on Wednesday. The Times of Israel reported on Thursday (October 10).
According to reports, the two leaders had a 30-minute talk on Wednesday. Biden-Netanyahu talked about this twice on the phone in the last 50 days.
The White House said in a statement that Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for the US presidential election next month and the current vice president, joined the call.
The statement also said that Biden reiterated his unwavering commitment to Israel’s security. He strongly condemned Iran’s October 1 ballistic missile attack.
The White House statement also said Biden emphasized the need to minimize civilian casualties. Especially in the densely populated areas of Beirut, where Israel has been conducting airstrikes targeting several bases, mainly in Hezbollah’s Dahiyeh area.
White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre described the talks between the two leaders as direct and productive. However, no details about the attack on Iran have been released.
Meanwhile, while this phone conversation between Biden and Harris is going on with Netanyahu, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant has threatened that Israel’s counterattack on Iran will be lethal, precise and surprising.
Jean-Pierre said Biden and Netanyahu discussed conflict with Iran. However, he did not give any more detailed information about this.
Meanwhile, at a press briefing later Wednesday, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that while the United States supports Israeli forces’ current limited ground incursions into Lebanon, it does not want them to extend deeper into Lebanon or to make Israel’s presence long-term.
In the excitement of Iran-Israeli counterattacks, many are thinking that Israel may attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. However, Biden has previously said that he does not support an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
