Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of a global coalition aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state and implementing a two-state solution. Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan announced this on Thursday. Anadolu Agency reported this information with reference to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Saudi Arabia’s official news agency reported that the newly formed alliance includes several Arab and Muslim states as well as several European countries. However, the organization has not disclosed the names of any countries that have become members of the alliance.
European Union foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell said on social media X that the alliance’s first meeting could be held in Riyadh and Brussels.
Saudi Arabia has been under pressure since the start of the war between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in October 2023. Two sources close to Riyadh said that Saudi Arabia has backed away from the US plan to normalize Israel’s relations with Saudi Arabia.
Faisal bin Salman said in his speech at the session, “There is no better way to resolve this crisis and suffering than a solution based on a two-state solution. Which is very important for the peaceful coexistence and security of all, including Israel, in the new reality of the region.
Last week, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in a statement that they will not recognize Israel unless an independent Palestinian state is established. He also expressed strong anger against the aggression of Israeli forces on Palestinian citizens in Gaza.
Incidentally, on October 7, 2023, the Israeli army launched a full-scale military operation in Gaza against the killing of 1,200 Israeli citizens and the capture of 250 hostages by Hamas. According to the Gaza Health Department, 41,500 Palestinians have been killed so far in Israeli attacks.
