The continuous Israeli attack for 15 months has turned Gaza into a city of destruction. During this time, more than 47,000 people have lost their lives, and two-thirds of the infrastructure has been destroyed. 96 percent of Gaza’s agricultural land, which is self-sufficient in production, has been damaged.
Mirad Mukad was trying to find some belongings in the rubble of his house in Gaza. However, a few months ago, his house was quite tidy. And now there is no sign of anything. Many others like Mukad are in the same situation.
Although some have been able to return home, many are not confident of returning due to the fear of another attack. There is also concern about how long the ceasefire will last. As a result, the number of asylum seekers in the Khan Yunis refugee camp is increasing.
The conflict between the Palestinian independence organization Hamas and Israel began on October 7, 2023. The Israeli army carried out destruction in the valley for 15 consecutive months. Recently, various media outlets have been publishing reports on the loss of life and damage to infrastructure in Gaza.
It is said that more than 47,000 people have been killed in Gaza so far. Millions of Palestinians have been injured. In addition, 90 percent of Palestinians have been displaced more than 10 times within Gaza.
Before the conflict began, Gaza was self-sufficient in production. According to the United Nations, 96 percent of agricultural land has been damaged by the continuous attacks of Israeli forces. Gazans are suffering from a severe food crisis. After the ceasefire, various countries are sending aid there. More than 2,000 trucks carrying food and essential supplies have entered in the last three days.
Gaza’s health sector is also in a dire state. Before October 2023, 36 hospitals were operating in the valley. Currently, not a single hospital is fully functional. The World Health Organization says that more than 600 attacks have been carried out targeting the health sector. Two-thirds of the infrastructure, including schools, colleges, and mosques, have been destroyed. Satellite images released by the United Nations show that about 68 percent of the communication network has been destroyed.
According to the United Nations, it could take up to 2040, or 15 years from now, to rebuild homes in Gaza. And right now, 1.8 million people need emergency shelter.
