A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the southern island of Mindanao in the Philippines. The earthquake hit Mindanao in the southern part of the country on Saturday.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck at a depth of 17 kilometers, about 20 kilometers from the village of Barcelona, east of Mindanao Island. However, local authorities said that there was no damage in this earthquake.
Ian Onsing, a municipal official in Linguig, a neighboring town of Barcelona, told AFP the earthquake was quite strong. I was sleeping, suddenly I woke up – the furniture in the house was shaking. This vibration lasted for about 10-15 seconds.
Incidentally, earthquakes are not a rare disaster in the Philippines due to its location on the tectonic plate of the Pacific Ocean’s Ring of Fire. An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 occurred in the country last December. 3 people lost their lives.
