Trump at the White House, Russia-China relations closer

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have pledged to further strengthen ties between the two countries through a video conference.

The two leaders made the announcement a day after Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States.

This information was reported in a report by the Russian news agency TAAS on Wednesday.

According to the report, Putin and Xi discussed Eurasian security and bilateral relations in the video conference. Both leaders confirmed that Russia and China are working together to enhance the security of the Eurasian region.

Later, in a statement, Putin said, ‘We are working to ensure the indivisible security of the Eurasian region and the world.’

At the same time, the Russian president also mentioned that Russia has become the main supplier of gas to China.

He said, ‘Five years ago we launched the Siberian fuel gas pipeline. Today Russia has become the main supplier of natural gas to China.’

Putin stressed that relations between Moscow and Beijing are based on friendship, mutual trust and equal opportunities.

“Our relations are based on broad convergence of national interests and a common view of what relations between major powers should be,” Putin added.

Meanwhile, Kremlin deputy spokesman Yuri Ushakov said that he had informed Russian President Putin about the content of Donald Trump’s phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on January 17.

Ushakov said, “Xi Jinping conveyed the essence of his phone call with Trump to Putin.”

The two leaders also discussed the situation in the Asia-Pacific region and the Taiwan issue in their video conference. The Russian leader reiterated his unwavering support for the “one China policy.”

Meanwhile, they also discussed the situation in Ukraine and Russia’s relations with the United States in the context of the Trump administration taking power.

“The situation in Ukraine and the relationship between our two countries and the United States naturally came up for discussion,” Ushakov said.
